Looking Ahead: Reading & Running 2019 Goals

I wasn’t very active on the blog last year (Lazy Day Books).  My introvert game was strong!  I was also wanting to write about more than just books, but felt I should stay “on topic”, so then I ended up not writing much at all.  I spent some time over the last few months developing this new site so that I could write about anything I wanted to, like reading, running, baking or even just post photos of pretty places.  I also copied over all of my old posts to this new site so I could have everything in one place and build on it.

Now that we’re in a new year, I’d like to get back to regular posting and explore some new topics.  I also want to change the way I review books.  I read A LOT, but in the past I haven’t always reviewed every book.  I don’t like always writing a long review, especially when I can’t talk about the most exciting parts of the book, because of spoilers.  And that’s not fun.  I’m not sure what format my reviews will take this year, I may try some different things and see what fits me the best.

In addition to reading, I also really enjoy running.  I’ve been running 3 & 1/2 years now and still consider myself a “beginner”.  I am always learning new things about running, my body and training for races.  Last year, I didn’t make any new year’s resolutions, but I did set some running goals. One was to get my marathon time under 5 hours and the other was to run 1,500 miles in 2018. I put in a lot of hard work and very early mornings and I finally got my sub-5 at the Chicago Marathon in October in 4:50 (my stretch goal!) and I met my mileage goal on Christmas day, finishing the year with 1,516 miles. I also set new personal bests at all the other distances I raced throughout the year for 5K, 10K, 15K, 10 mile and Half Marathon. It was a fantastic running year!

For 2019, I’m going to target 1,600 miles and I do want to keep improving my race times. I am registered again for the Chicago Marathon in October, but still have to figure out which other events I want to do. I also want to run more races just for fun without the pressure of a time goal. I’m very competitive with myself, so we’ll see how that plan goes.  My first “for fun” race is the F3 Half Marathon later this month.

There were big waves yesterday that were crashing over the lakefront trail! It was fun to watch!

What are some of your goals this year?
